After correspondence with a couple in the city of Khon Kaen desiring to be a part of a Baptist church in their area, our missions team drove down (150 KM south of Udon) to find a suitable church building for rent. We tentatively have planned to meet every Tuesday night in Khon Kaen beginning May 8. Khon Kaen is a large city and a hub of commerce in the Isan region of Northeastern Thailand. The city is also home to the areas largest university, making it an attractive prospect to reaching out to college students. After driving around town fruitlessly looking for a building to rent, Bro. Tim had a groundbreaking idea… “let’s stop and pray!” We pulled over and asked for the Lord’s guidance in the matter, and then took off again, seeing a sign about 10 feet from where we stopped. I call the number and asked how much the rent was. It was out of our price range, so I asked the lady on the phone if she knew of any buildings for around 5000-6000 baht per month. She said that we would never find a place for that price. She was wrong. One block away, we saw another sign… one that we had passed by at least twice before. I called the number and talked to the owner who happened to live next door. Within 15 minutes, we were signing a lease on the building (for 5500 baht per month). Praise the Lord!

Work continues on the Sunday school literature translation, and I have been working hard on formating and graphics to get everything ready to send two booklets to press. Bro. Bill Johnson visited, and has taken on 100% of the salary of our literature translator through the ministry of International Christian Publishers. This will relieve a financial burden off our ministry here. ICP plans to carry two of the translated quarterlies to press in Chiang Mai for printing an initial 500 copies each. I will travel to Chiang Mai in a few weeks with Bros. Sims and Burdette to pick up the literature along with some Bibles for the church here. The Johnson’s visit was productive and encouraging. Sunday school literature of the quality of ABA books are virtually nonexistent on the mission field. Pray for the work of literature translation so that we may more effectively teach and disciple converts in the Word of God.

After over a month in the States, we have returned home to Thailand, recharged, encouraged and ready to see what blessings the Lord has in store here on the field. We were greeted by a large welcoming committee of the Burdettes, the Sims and many of the church people from Udon. It’s a long flight from America to Southeast Asia, and it’s nice to be able to lie down in my own bed. We have made Thailand our home, and sometimes refer to America as “back home,” yet I know that this world is not my home. We are just travelers passing through for a short time, waiting expectantly for that city where I shall one day make my abode.

This was a week of getting reacquainted with old friends at our sponsoring church of Westwood Missionary Baptist Church in Winter Haven, FL. Some of the older faces are gone and yet many are new to us. It was a joy to come and report of all the Lord has done in Thailand over the past five years, and share in the blessings of what God has been doing though our sending church both locally and around the world. Westwood has many exciting plans for the future in expanding the gospel ministry through mission work. Though a few months late, we were able to thanks Westwood personally for sending the mission building crew to help us in Thailand this past fall. Westwood, you are such a blessing and encouragement to us on the field. Never stop serving the Lord!

This weekend, we were blessed to attend the missions conference of Unity Faith Missionary Baptist Church in Naples, FL with pastor Leon Williams. The church took this years conference to the community itself with booths, games, mission displays and outdoor preaching on a large stage in one of the city’s parks. The event was well attended and was a great outreach to the community at large. Also preaching was missionary Michael Jeremiah from Granada, who touched our hearts with a stirring message on missions. We have had our hearts filed and our cups are overflowing. The Lord knew we needed this to recharge our batteries after a long term of hard labor and trying persecution on the mission field. Thank you Lord for what you do! To Him from whom all blessings flow…. may you be blessed today is our prayer.

Pinehaven Baptist Church’s first Missions Conference was a successful and well attended meeting lasting from Wednesday to Sunday. I was given the opportunity to preach three times during the conference, along with other guest speakers Bro. Paul Armstrong and Bro. Jim Philamlee. Several other missionaries also came and presented their work to the church. Several from surrounding churches in the area also attended. The church had several activities for the missionaries including visiting the Pensacola NAS air museum, lunch at Lambert’s restaurant in Foley, AL and shopping at an outlet mall. Saturday, we had an early birthday party for Tara who turns three next week while we will be on the road. The fellowship, food and most of all the spiritual uplifting of the conference was a great blessing to both me and my family.

Today we arrived in Panama City, FL after a long trip around the globe. Valentines Day was spent flying over the Pacific ocean in a Boeing 747-400. We will spend a few weeks in the States as I preach two missions conferences and visit both my sponsoring church and our families here in Florida. Next week we will attend Pinehaven Baptist Church’s very first missions conference, and I will be speaking there three nights during the week. It’s been a long time since we stepped foot on American soil. It seems strange to be here. One of the strangest things is the weather. It was 99 degrees when we left Bangkok, and it is 35 degrees here in Florida right now. Coming back from a tropical country, I haven’t felt this cold in a long time. Our first stop was at Quizno’s for lunch. Mmmmm… someone needs to open a franchise in Thailand. Pray for us as we travel these next few weeks here in the States.

We are excited to announce that Bro. Rodney Burdette and family have arrived here in Udon Thani, Thailand to begin serving in the ministry here with us at the Udon Thani Baptist Church as they learn the language and culture, preparing themselves for church planting ministry here in Thailand. Bro. Burdette is sponsored by Lighthouse Baptist Church in Frederick, MD… the same church who sponsors Bro. Tim Sims. It’s wonderful to have them as part of our mission team here in Thailand. Not only will we have more workers here, but we will enjoy the fellowship immensely with our Christian brothers and sisters. Keep the Burdettes in you prayers as they get settled in, look for a house to live in, and learn the Thai language so as to be able to minister to the people here in Thailand.

It’s great to have our partners in the mission work, the Sims family returning to the field this month after several months on the road visiting their supporting churches. Bro. Tim and family are an invaluable asset to the work here. As they are becoming more capable in the Thai language, they are able to minister to the people here in Thailand on a more functional basis, and are a blessing both to us and the Thai people here in Udon Thani. Please keep the Sims family in your prayers as they endeavor to propagate the gospel and minister to souls here in northeastern Thailand.

Today I went to visit Bee and her mother to see why she hasn’t come to church lately. They weren’t home, so I struck up a conversation with a lady across the street to ask about them. I found out that Bee’s grandfather had recently passed away and they had traveled to his village to the funeral. In the mean time, I had a great conversation with her neighbor, and after talking for almost two hours, lead her to the Lord. Later, as we were still sitting on the ground outside talking, her elderly mother came hobbling out of the house to ask what I was talking about. She said that she thought I was selling something at first, yet after listening in on our conversation, she knew it was something different. I spoke with this 84 year old lady named Yai Dum for almost another solid hour about the Lord. She had never heard of Jesus Christ and wanted to hear all about Him. It was wonderful to see her interest. Before I left, she told me that she, too, wanted to place her trust in Christ. We bowed and prayed there in the dusty yard in front of their home. I promised I’d come back to give them each a Bible, and they promised to come to church on Sunday. Praise God! Pray for these two ladies.
