Did you ever wake up on Sunday morning feeling terrible and wishing you could go back to bed? You know it’s just the devil trying to stop you from going to church to worship the Lord, so you make yourself get up and you get ready for the morning service. When you arrive, you’re smiling, but inside you’re still dragging. As you sing and listen to the message of God’s Word, you find yourself feeling much better than you did earlier. You feel your heart being blessed by the spiritual food you need, and those aches and pains in your body seem to melt away. Today, here in Udon, I was still feeling sick from the infection I’ve had all week, yet the Lord gave me the extra grace and strength I needed to stand up and proclaim the Word to a packed church house. The message? “Seek ye first the kingdom of God, and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added unto you.” Matt. 6:33

I didn’t stop writing in the journal all together, I’ve just been sick. This past week, I’ve been pretty much out of it. Monday, I started feeling bad and was running a fever. By that evening, I was having terrible pains in my chest and neck and went to the hospital that night. The doctors ran every test imaginable: EEG, EKG, x-rays and blood work. By Tuesday night, the diagnosis was in: They had no idea what was wrong. So, I told the doctor that I could not know what was wrong with me (for free) at home. The doctor guessed it was a virus or infection of some sort aggravated by stress, and gave me some major pain medicine and antibiotics. I’m finally feeling up to getting out and about. Thank you to everyone who has been praying for me. Though I didn’t teach the Thursday night Bible class, the work here is still trucking along. The rafters are up on the church building and they are stuccoing the walls. Kak, our translator is working on two Sunday school quarterlies, one for primary and one for teens. The English classes are going well. I’m glad that the work here is not dependent on me to function, but the Lord is in control of everything. Blessed be the name of the Lord!

We had another great Sunday today here in Udon. I continued my series on the epistle of First John. Today’s sermon was a continuation from last week’s “How to Keep from Sin” message. As I left this morning to run the church route, I found two Father’s Day card’s on the window. I’ve got a great family who loves me very much. The Lord has blessed me greatly. After the morning services, Rachel and Tara took me out to eat a steak. It was US beef (rarely seen in Thailand) and probably the best steak I’ve had in a long time. This evening I called to talk to my own Dad. It’s great that we can keep in touch with family in the States. My Dad’s a godly, hard working man who I’ve always looked up to. This Father’s Day, let’s also remember our heavenly Father, from whom all blessings flow! “Behold, what manner of love the Father hath bestowed upon us, that we should be called the sons of God…” 1 John 3:1

That’s what my daughter Tara calls me. She’s “Lit’l Tara” and I’m “Little Daddy.” Since Rachel was teaching an English class today, Tara and I spent the day together and had some quality Daddy/daughter time. After checking on the work at the church and buying some roofing supplies, I came home and got to spend time reading and playing toys with her. We’ve got a couple of learning programs on the computer that teach consonants, vowels and simple grammar. Tara loves to play them, and she can read and spell a few simple words. She can tell you the beginning letter of any word you ask her. I don’t seem to have much down time these days, but I love spending time with Tara anytime I can. My favorite times are in the morning when she crawls in bed with us and at night when she crawls up in my lap with her little Bible to listen to a story. Tomorrow is Father’s Day, and as I think about what kind of father I am, I hope that when it’s all said and done… I can say that I’ve lead my children in the way of the Lord.
“Lo, children are a heritage of the LORD: and the fruit of the womb is his reward. ” Psalm 127:3

Today we went to visit a lady who had invited us to eat supper at her home. Kak and another couple joined us for a great time of fellowship. This lady, named Meuk, is 46 and is raising her daughter alone. She has been faithfully coming to services for the past few weeks, and has recently accepted Christ as her Savior. She is going through some difficulties right now, and I ask that you pray for her as she seeks the will of the Lord in her life. Tara is sick right now with a 102.5 fever. Please pray for her also. God bless you today.

Today I shopped around for roofing supplies and purchased the metal that we will use to build the rafters. The block layers are waiting for the window frames to be finished before they can continue. The block wall facing the road to the front of the church property was stuccoed today, which the former owners will be glad of. We finally covered up the phone number and for sale sign that was spray painted on the wall. Tomorrow, we will be starting on the roof. This evening, I taught the Bible doctrines class, and had four new first time students. We talked about Biblical creation and the fall of man. While I was teaching, Rachel made some home-made pizza… and it was really good. Right now, Rachel and Christine are waiting for me to finish writing so we can have a Scrabble rematch. God bless you today!!!

Today, I went to teach English at the high school. I’m only having to teach until noon each week until July. That’s been a blessing because of how busy I’ve been lately with the building project. This evening Rachel and I went with a two other ladies in the church to visit a couple that attended services Sunday. This couple is in their mid-forties and has three children, one of which plays on the Thai national soccer team. They made professions of faith over ten years ago, and said they would like to get involved in serving God in a church. While there, they asked me to have a Bible study with them and answer some personal questions about problems they are facing in their lives. I would ask that you please pray for this couple as they seek the Lord’s will for their lives. “For this cause we also, since the day we heard it, do not cease to pray for you, and to desire that ye might be filled with the knowledge of his will in all wisdom and spiritual understanding.” Colossians 1:9

Tonight, we had our first music class of the new term. Most of our old students returned, and we had several new students also. Since we began the lessons and classes, all of the students have learned to read music, and we have several potential piano players for church. It’s a far cry from when we first came a few years ago. When we sang songs in church, most of the people would talk or look at each other and giggle. Now the singing and music in church services is not only beautiful to listen to, but also seems to come from the heart. “Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom; teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord.” Colossians 3:16

Today, there was a lot accomplished at the office and the construction site. This morning, I worked with Kak, our translator, trying to get all the bugs worked out with the graphics and Thai fonts of the first ABA quarterly translated into the Thai language. The text translation was completed last week. Today we were able to get the formatting fixed to complete the first project for Bro. Bill Johnson’s ministry, International Christian Publishers. This first quarterly is a Primary lesson booklet. On to the building project… after a quick lunch, I headed out to the construction site where we poured concrete for the walkway in front of the Sunday school rooms and also a front porch for the building. We erected the doorframes, which we cut from rough timber of a redwood tree. I finally made it home around 9:00 tonight. Proverbs 20:29 says “The glory of young men is their strength: and the beauty of old men is the gray head.” As I looked into the mirror tonight, I noticed that I’m starting to lose my glory and gain more beauty.

Today the church building was full with 74 in the morning service and 91 in the evening. We had several new first time visitors that we had invited on visitation yesterday. This morning’s sermon was a continuation of a study in the book of 1 John, and we heard a great sermon on prayer by Don, a Thai preacher, in the evening worship service. For the visitors, they heard the gospel message for the first time in their lives. I’m sure a Christian church service is very strange indeed for a Buddhist, yet they seemed open to listening about the message of the gospel. Please pray that the Word of God will sink into their hearts that they might see their need for the Savior. “For the preaching of the cross is to them that perish foolishness; but unto us which are saved it is the power of God. ” 1 Corinthians 1:18
